The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), in coordination with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), has been working to certify the implementation of GHS in the U.S. In 2003, DOL/OSHA and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recommended that the GHS be used internationally to harmonize hazard classifications for chemicals for both vendors and consumers alike.
