Update for debricking without serial on OpenWrt 18.06: The debricking is a little bit different. I had to go out of the way to make it work. First of all, you have to know, that the original firmware is contained in the file named /lib/firmware/tplink/tplink_hwrevid.bin and the right firmware version is required to debrick. If you have a different firmware version, you will debrick it. First of all, download the right firmware version, extract it to the right directory and run the debricking script:
Update for debricking without serial on OpenWrt 18.05: The debricking is a little bit different. I had to go out of the way to make it work. First of all, you have to know, that the original firmware is contained in the file named /lib/firmware/tplink/tplink_hwrevid.bin and the right firmware version is required to debrick. If you have a different firmware version, you will debrick it.
cd /lib/firmware/tplink
./tplink_drv.sh debrick
When you have a debricked device, it will look like this. But keep in mind that you will have to upload a new firmware version to your router to get it in normal running status again. So you will have to do that, if you want to continue with debricking. If you want to keep the debricked firmware version for future debricking, you can do so. But remember, to not debrick your router again.
If you are lucky you have no broken firmware versions and can run the bricked router. Otherwise the code will be in your router. If you want to try it, you can extract all files to the right directory and run the software via the web interface. This will only burn in the image, so it is still possible to bring the router back to life. But keep in mind, that I am not responsible if this will brick your device.
Update for debricking without serial on OpenWrt 18.09: All the Linksys routers shipped with the router-configuration-interface (rc.local) on which the MAC address is hardcoded. It's the only way to hardcode a MAC address on OpenWrt 18.09-20.05, so if you need to debrick, this is the only option. There are two ways:
In the new version of the OpenWrt image you will find the Packages-file and the Packages.sh-file. This is our own customized version, which is used for installing additional packages. The image is available for Tp-Link TL-WDR3500 (around here ) and here 827ec27edc
