Windows 7 Starter is the most basic edition of Windows operating system released by Microsoft. It is available only as pre-installed (OEM licensing). Windows 7 comes in six different editions (Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Enterprise, Professional, and Ultimate). Some of these are widely used and available as Retail or Volume License. So if you are in need to optimize PC speed and get the best performance, you must be downloading Windows 7.
The Windows 7 direct downloads are back! You can use our new ISO download tool to generate temporary download links on the Microsoft server. All downloads that were previously available on Digital, River are accessible once again, plus many more (more languages, OEM versions, Get Genuine Kits etc.)
If you have a valid retail product key, you can alternatively download untouched ISO images via the Software Recovery Centre. Those downloads are exactly the same as the ones provided by our download tool.
If you have no product key yet, and want to use Windows 7 permanently, these links are for you. Windows 7 keys are quite affordable these days, and Amazon's A-to-z Guarantee ensures that you receive your money back in case you receive a counterfeit product. A Windows 7 key is always valid for all language and bit versions of the same edition, therefore, don't worry if the product is not available in your desired language. You can still activate any ISO download of the same edition. Windows 7 is available from Amazon, eBay etc. in three different editions:
Once you've completed your download, you can burn it to DVD using any DVD writing software that supports writing disk images. If you already run any Windows 7 version, it's also possible to write the ISO image to DVD just by double clicking it.
The Windows 7 product keys are all agnostic of language version and bit edition. Any valid Windows 7 product key determines only the edition (Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, Enterprise). It can, however, activate both 32 and 64 bit editions in any language. So, for instance, a key for the German Windows 7 Professional x86 edition can activate a Chinese Windows 7 Professional x64 edition. So if you already own a key, you can download any 32 or 64 bit image in your preferred language.
The *.iso downloads can very easily be converted into universal installation media supporting all Windows 7 editions (except Enterprise). There's only a single file that needs to be removed on the DVD. The file named ei.cfg in the sources folder restricts the choice of Windows editions that can be installed with that particular DVD. To remove it, you can apply the ei.cfg Removal Utility very easily.
The x86 (32 bit) editions run with 32 bit, the x64 editions, with 64 bit. The most important difference is that x64 editions can address more than 4 GByte of memory. Most software isn't available in 64 bit yet, and some old software and devices won't work on x64. So it makes sense to use 64 bit if you have more than 4 GB of RAM, and/or your most important software programmes exist as x64 versions as well, and you're absolutely sure your soft- and hardware will work properly. If you're still unsure which one you should choose, please download an x86 edition.
The following table is provided for reference only, so that you know which file name is which Windows version, in case you find some of the files from an alternative download source. The downloads in this table are no longer working.

At PDC 2008, Microsoft demonstrated Windows 7 with its reworked taskbar.[38] On December 27, 2008, the Windows 7 Beta was leaked onto the Internet via BitTorrent.[39] According to a performance test by ZDNet,[40] Windows 7 Beta beat both Windows XP and Vista in several key areas, including boot and shutdown time and working with files, such as loading documents. Other areas did not beat XP, including PC Pro benchmarks for typical office activities and video editing, which remain identical to Vista and slower than XP.[41] On January 7, 2009, the x64 version of the Windows 7 Beta (build 7000) was leaked onto the web, with some torrents being infected with a trojan.[42][43] At CES 2009, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced the Windows 7 Beta, build 7000, had been made available for download to MSDN and TechNet subscribers in the format of an ISO image.[44] The stock wallpaper of the beta version contained a digital image of the Betta fish.[45]
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) was announced on March 18, 2010. A beta was released on July 12, 2010.[137][138][139] The final version was released to the public on February 22, 2011.[140] At the time of release, it was not made mandatory. It was available via Windows Update, direct download, or by ordering the Windows 7 SP1 DVD.[141] The service pack is on a much smaller scale than those released for previous versions of Windows, particularly Windows Vista.[142]
In May 2016, Microsoft released a \"Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1,\" which contains all patches released between the release of SP1 and April 2016. The rollup is not available via Windows Update, and must be downloaded manually. This package can also be integrated into a Windows 7 installation image.[153]
Since October 2016, all security and reliability updates are cumulative. Downloading and installing updates that address individual problems is no longer possible, but the number of updates that must be downloaded to fully update the OS is significantly reduced.[154]
In order to comply with European antitrust regulations, Microsoft proposed the use of a \"ballot\" screen containing download links to competing web browsers, thus removing the need for a version of Windows completely without Internet Explorer, as previously planned.[212] Microsoft announced that it would discard the separate version for Europe and ship the standard upgrade and full packages worldwide, in response to criticism involving Windows 7 E and concerns from manufacturers about possible consumer confusion if a version of Windows 7 with Internet Explorer were shipped later, after one without Internet Explorer.[213]
The following files are available for download from the Microsoft Download Center.Note If you have a 32-bit version of Office 2013 installed on a 64-bit version of Windows, you should install the Office 2013 SP1 32-bit package.
The version downloaded with the download manager is installing, so WoodyZ you were right all along. It still doesn't match any checksum which is a bad sign... but at least it gets into install now. Well done.
I wasn't 100% sure as I didn't download the file and try validating it however I've seen that error message posted far to many times in which it was confirmed to be a corrupt ISO Image. As a general rule I always try validating against officially published checksums or corroborated checksums before proceeding to use the downloaded file when dealing with large downloads. While I've had a relatively low number of corrupted downloads nonetheless I'd rather validate first before dealing with an issue later. For me it's SOP!
Not necessarily a bad sign, it depends on the source of the checksums. The ones I posted for the X17-24395.iso were c/p'ed from a random web page not MS. MS does not always publish values however when downloading directly from MS or Digital River if there hasn't been an officially published checksum there are usually enough corroborating postings of valid checksums available.
The interesting bit is, on a ADSL 2+ connection I have, I cannot get pristine copies, they all seem to feature some corruption, even using the same download manager. This has never occurred to my knowledge for anything other than downloads from Digital River... Someone has mentioned MTU sizes, but this is not really an explanation for corruption.
