The Devil May Cry series has seen the release of seven separate soundtracks. Initially, Capcom was very reluctant to release an officially sanctioned soundtrack for the Devil May Cry series, due to worries that the products would sell poorly. As a means of testing the market, Capcom decided to ask for pre-release sales.[1]
After the pre-release sales were met, the Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 2 soundtracks were released to the public on October 15, 2004. Both were released as separate 2-disc sets, with Masami Ueda, Misao Senbongi, and Masato Koda credited as producers for the Devil May Cry soundtrack and Masato Koda, Tetsuya Shibata and Satoshi Ise credited as producers for the Devil May Cry 2 soundtrack.[2][3]
Devil May Cry 4 Original Soundtrack is a 3-disc, 104 track soundtrack to the video game Devil May Cry 4. It was released in Japan on February 27, 2008.[16][17] Female vocals are handled by Aubrey Ashburn (1-02) while male vocals are handled by Shawn \"Shootie HG\" McPherson of Hostile Groove (1-20 and 3-03) and Jason \"ShyBoy\" Arnold of Hypnogaja (1-13 and 3-38). Tetsuya Shibata is credited as the primary composer, with tracks composed by Shusaku Uchiyama, Kota Suzuki, Akihiko Narita, Rei Kondoh, Chamy Ishikawa and Shinichiro Satoh. The soundtrack was released in the USA on 25 Nov 2008 with a new artwork.[18]
DmC: Devil May Cry Soundtrack Selection is the soundtrack to the game DmC: Devil May Cry. It was released on 15 January 2013, coinciding with the game's release date. The soundtrack selection is not available for commercial sale, it was instead a European bonus that came with pre-ordered Premium/Special editions.[19] The tracks are composed by Noisia and Andy LaPlegua and performed by Noisia (1-7) and Combichrist (8-15).
The series name, Devil May Cry, is a reference to the in-universe workplace of Dante. The origin of the name comes in Devil May Cry 3, where Lady, taliking to Dante after the latter is forced to leave behind his brother in a hostile envoirnment, says \"I see. Maybe somewhere out there even a devil may cry when he loses a loved one. Don't you think\". Perhaps the title of the series represents the thesis for the whole franchise, applying a human emotion to a non-human being symbolizing that human feelings such as empathy or sadness are universal and are not meant to be shunned but instead accepted as a representation that no one is perfect. After all, even a devil may cry.
The Demon Tower Temen-ni-gru is a stage that comes bundled with the Fighter Pack #X. In the context of the Devil May Cry series, it is an unholy monument worshipped by devils, originally sealed by the former demon king Sparda but ressurected by Vergil during Devil May Cry 3. The stage consists of a circular arena on the center that moves upwards towards the apex, stopping between floors before moving again.
At first intended to be another entry in the Resident Evil franchise, the original Devil May Cry installment has been cited as the beginning of a subgenre of third-person action games called \"Extreme Combat\"[1] (other alternate names includes \"Extreme Action\" or \"Stylish Action\"[2]). This subgenre is also known as \"3D hack & slash\" or \"character action game\" and is considered a part of the beat 'em up genre.[3]
The Devil Trigger ability enables the player's character to transform into a devil-like form with additional powers based on their current weapon, while the character's strength and speed increase and health is slowly restored. The first three games also eliminated the need to reload or reserve ammunition.
The chronological order of the Devil May Cry series does not follow the release order of the games. The first game in the time line is Devil May Cry 3, followed by Devil May Cry, then Devil May Cry 2, Devil May Cry 4 and Devil May Cry 5. The anime series, which is canon to the games,[6] takes place between the original Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 2.
While the series' timeline had originally placed Devil May Cry 4 before Devil May Cry 2, this was retconned with the release of Devil May Cry 5.[7][8] The reboot game developed by Ninja Theory, DmC: Devil May Cry, is set in a parallel universe and is not part of the original series' timeline.
Although the series is substantially different from its original Resident Evil inspiration, its lineage is still apparent, from the recurring boss characters and tendency towards grotesque adversaries, the need to solve elaborate puzzles to proceed, to the \"This Game Contains Scenes Of Violence And Gore\" warning at the opening sequence and \"You Are Dead\" game over screens. The violent finishing moves some monsters can perform are also reminiscent of its lineage.
Some of the major gameplay elements were partially inspired by a bug found in Onimusha: Warlords. During a test-play, Kamiya discovered that enemies could be kept in the air by slashing them repeatedly, which lead to the inclusion of juggles by gunfire and sword strikes in the original game.[9] According to Eurogamer, Capcom's 1989 arcade game Strider has been cited as a vital influence on the Devil May Cry franchise,[10] and according to Retro Gamer, the over-the-top action of Devil May Cry draws from Strider, particularly in their inclusion of the \"boss rush\".[11]
Bingo Morihashi also wrote a Devil May Cry 4 novel titled Devil May Cry 4 Deadly Fortune. The two volume series was released by in Japan in 2009 and featured multiple scenes that were not included in the original game due to time restraints. On March 1, 2019, a prequel novel that takes places before Devil May Cry 5 and leads up to beginning of the game was released and written by Bingo Morihashi.
A fine piece of proof of Japanese talent within the movie industry to any kind of fan. This movie features a lot of gore and with quite an emotion heavy soundtrack like this backing it up, its clear what made Versus so good.
Good soundtrack. Great film. The subtle, yet ominous feel to the music is a great addition to the atmospheric setting in the film.If you haven't seen the film... shame on you! Ha not really! Just imagine Japanese gangsters in a forest in the middle of nowhere with.. um.. zombies (sort of).The film is truly awesome. See it!
Action-packed combat, the signature humour of the series and the devilish soundtrack formed a perfect concoction. Not only is it the best entry in the series, but it also comes first chronologically. Which means you can enjoy the story from its very origins by playing the best game among the six.
Capcom has apparently caved in to public demand in Japan and now plans to release a pair of Devil May Cry soundtracks. According to reports, Japanese company Tanomi.com convinced Capcom to release soundtracks providing that there was enough demand, and Capcom agreed as long as 1,000 people pre-ordered them. As a result, it looks like fans are going to get their way - the soundtrack set will apparently feature 73 tracks on two discs for the first game, and 51 tracks on two discs for the second.
